Hohner Clavinet D6

The Hohner Clavinet is a vintage electro-mechanical keyboard - essentially an amplified clavichord. The D6 was a later model featuring a six-core pickup design as opposed to a single coil set up. It works by hard rubber hammers hitting steel strings and has to be plugged into an amplifier for good sound. The bright tones are very distinctive and have featured on high profile funk tracks, with Stevie Wonder being one of the most famous users. It’s such a desirable sound that there are software Clavinet emulations. The Clavinet was also popular for reggae and disco, and was made between 1964 and the 1980s.
